Let civic works top govt agenda: janata
The Times of India

Bangalore: H D Kumaraswamy and B S Yediyurappa have drawn up new plans for Bangalore and Karnataka. But what about people’s expectations? Many resident welfare groups that The Times of India spoke to highlighted the need for basic amenities like water and good roads. Excerpts:

Good roads please: Infrastructure development in CMC areas like L B Shastri Nagar and HAL Market is a must. At present, residents of HAL II Stage neither have proper roads nor water supply. This should be on the government’s priority list. — R Narayanan, former president of HAL II Stage Residents’ Welfare Association

Pedestrians pushed to road: We need basic amenities like footpaths for pedestrians. Traffic should be regulated to make roads a safe place for motorists and pedestrians alike. The government must encourage the public to make use of public transport and car pools. — Vrudha Bhaskar, president of B M Kaval Residents’ Association, Indira Nagar II Stage
Pull down obscene hoardings: Huge obscene hoardings which mushroom all over the city have become a nuisance. It is well within the powers of the government to bring them down. It should also crack the whip on commercialisation of the residential areas. — Anandi Rau, president of Defence Colony Environmental Project, Defence Colony

Good transportation system: The need of the hour is better connectivity to rural areas. Plus, we must have improved road and transportation system. — Ratnakar Rai, president of Binamangala Residents’ Welfare Association, Indira Nagar
Power supply: Uninterrupted water and power supply should top the priority list of the government. Routine cleaning of drains is what we look forward to. Proper facilities in government schools and hospitals should also be given. — G D Mallinath, vice-president of Atmeeya Geleyara Balagara II Stage, A G B Layout

Brace for monsoon: Many civic works are pending in Girinagar: Road work has to be taken up and drainage system should be streamlined. We suffered heavily during the rain last year. We don’t want to face that again. The government should buck up before the monsoon. — Damodara, ex-president of Girinagar Residents’ Welfare Association
Hasten Metro Rail work: Metro Rail project is the need of the hour as it will solve most of the traffic problems in Bangalore. Apart from this, we need proper drainage system and good roads. — B Bhaskar, secretary of Jayanagar V
Block Residents’ Welfare Association

Clear up choked drains: Bangalore is yearning for better infrastructure. It still has civic problems like garbage disposal, bad roads and choked drains. All this should be attended to. Flyover projects should be completed as early as possible to avoid congestion. — R Ram Murthy, president of Koramangala Residents’ Civic Group

Supply water regularly: Bhuvanagari has been getting water supply only three days a week, that too for o n e - a n d - a - h a l f hours. Complaints made to BWSSB have not helped. Decade-old roads are in bad condition calling for restoration. — K J Sethuraman, expresident of Bhuvanagiri Welfare Association
