BANGALORE: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has warned against illegal tree felling in Bangalore.

It has designated a ‘tree officer’ and those who wish to cut trees posing dangers to public like should apply for permission before cutting it down.

Felling of trees on footpaths or trees grown on private property without the permission of the tree officer is an offence under Tree Preservation Act 1976, Rule 1977.

Tree census: The BMP is taking up a tree census programme to document trees on footpaths in BMP limits.

The tree census will help chalk out programmes for the protection and planting of trees.

Education institutions, NGOs and individuals interested in taking part in the census can contact the BMP for registrations.
