WORK on the K e m p e g o w d a tower , being constructed by the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) at the Hudson Circle, continues to go on at a slow pace.

While the decision to build it was taken in the year 2004, actual work on the tower began only on July 11, 2005 as there were no bidders for the project.

W ater pipelines, passing through the construction area, had to be removed and this delayed the project further .

Moreover , the costs involved in constructing the tower , initially estimated to be Rs 50 lakh, is likely to exceed the stipulated amount.

The tower , as per schedule, should be completed by November this year .

The tower at Hudson Circle would be the fifth in the City . The other towers in the City are located at Lalbagh, Makeri circle, Kempambudi lake and Halsoor .

While BCC authorities are worried about completing the project on time, residents and shopkeepers in the City are eagerly awaiting the completion of the tower .

"The Hudson Circle tower will be the centre of attraction once it is completed," said Shivanna, a businessman.

Speaking to BVT , Mayor Mumtaz Begum assured that the work would be completed within the stipulated time. She also claimed that it would be ensured that the project didn’t exceed the estimated cost.
