Tenders to be invited soon for the project

Bangalore: Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will build a steel overpass at Shantala Circle, expected to be ready for traffic by March.

The 455-metre long overpass is likely to be assembled and ready in eight weeks and there will be no hindrance to regular traffic during the process, the BDA officials said.

The cost will be almost 1.7 times more than that of a conventional structure and the estimated cost is Rs. 28 crores. Tenders are to be called by end of this month.

The overpass will have a carriageway on both directions running between city railway station and the circle, where vehicles now have to stop at the traffic signal.

The steel components will be prefabricated and transported to the site.

Once at the location, they can be assembled and placed in eight weeks.

The steel overpass can be dismantled easily and assembled where traffic and road conditions are similar. This enhances their cost efficiency, according to the BDA.

The Shantala Circle overpass will be on a trial basis to see how best it can meet the needs of traffic and how sturdy it is. If it clicks, the BDA has plans for a similar overpass at the busy Trinity Circle. This may have to wait till the Metro Rail route is finalised.

Arkavathy Layout sites

Since last weekend the BDA has allotted close to 2,000 sites in the Arkavathy Layout after the project was cleared by the High Court.

The sites are offered at the cost of Rs. 2,100 per sq ft and those allotted are in the dimension of 50 x 80 ft., 60 x 40 ft., and 30 x 40 ft.

The site allocation process is expected to continue through the week and details are on the BDA website. The BDA has assured that none of the original allottees will miss the bus this time.
