A 5 member review committee constituted by the government to study the revised Master Plan 2015, has suggested certain changes in terms of land use pattern, zonal regulation and townships to decongest the City .

Speaking to BVT , M N Sreehari, one of the committee members said that he has proposed the g o v e r n ment to acquire land spanning 200 sq km between Hassan and T umkur Highway to develop a township with all the facilities including a commercial complex hospital and educational institutions, to restrict people from entering the City’s core area.

The government machinery should also be moved along the periphery enabling easy access to those residing in townships.

The town planners should develop the City in a reverse pattern ensuring that the central business districts will be developed along the periphery of the City . "T ownships should be developed on the lines of Greater Bombay and Putrajaya City in K uala Lumpur ," he said.

The population of each township should be restricted to a maximum of 10 lakh. If it exceeds, an alternate township should be formed. Each township should be given an access ramp to the arterial road, he suggested.

Adequate transport and other facilities should be provided, he said, and added that the City should be developed along the periphery with clear idea of infrastructure requirements.

The review committee was constituted to to scrutinise the suggestions and comments from the public. According to one of the members of the committee, it had received over 40,000 objections and comments requesting change in land use pattern. The draft Master Plan 2015 was submitted to the government during end of November 2005. Strict land use: The committee has suggested separate demarcation of land use in terms of classification such as residential, commercial and industrial. T o avoid recurrence of Koramangala episode, where the High Court directed demolition of violated portions of 87 buildings, strict vigil should be maintained to keep a tab on zonal violation by public as well as authorities concerned, Sreehari said.
