Association to block Outer Ring Road near BDA Complex

# CMC, Government ignored representations
# Residents say CMC does not have funds to repair roads
# Want the area to be brought under BMP

BANGALORE: The residents of Nagarabhavi Second Stage will go on a protest from Saturday demanding repair and asphalting of bad roads in their area.

The residents will block traffic near the BDA Complex at Nagarabhavi on Outer Ring Road.

The residents said the Rajarajeshwari Nagar City Municipal Council (CMC) had not spent any money on maintenance of roads that were laid in 1994. The CMC and the Government have turned a blind eye to their representations for better roads, the residents said.

Nagarabhavi 2nd Stage Residents' Welfare Association Vice-President Balakrishna Rao said their association had to fight a legal battle in the Karnataka High Court for getting electricity, road, and water for their area that was developed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).

"The BDA, fearing action under a contempt petition, laid roads in four months in 1994. These roads were of substandard quality," he said.

Mr. Rao said the CMC has no technical expertise and funds as compared to the BMP.

The residents have demanded transfer of their area to the BMP so that they can enjoy a better quality of life.
