BANGALORE: This year’s Republic Day horticultural show to be organised by the Mysore Horticulture Society will focus on information technology than beauty, said Director of Horticulture Department G K Vasanth Kumar.

Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday. Kumar said the farmers will get inputs on the economic importance at the show from January 20 to 26.

“We are aiming at crop diversification. Farmers will get know-how on horticulture crops, which would fetch them good profits and have export potential," he added.

A lot of local recipes will form an integral part of the show. The other highlights will be minor fruits and amla with rare dishes like amla jam, sweets and chocolates being on display.

Indian floral art, Ikebana, vegetable carving and bonsai, Dutch flower arrangements, Thai art, dry flower arrangements, janur and Origami art will be a part of the show at Dr MH Mari Gowda Memorial Hall.

It will be a feast to the eyes as a variety of flowers will be on display. Flowers like roses, bougainvilleas, crotons, hibiscus, cactii, succulents, bromeliads, foliage plants, perennial flowers and pot grown vegetables and fruits will also be exhibited.

A vegetable and ornamental garden competition will be held to encourage nurserymen and farmers.

The other attractions will include landscaping, laser presentations, anthorium nursery show, illumination of the garden and glasshouse.

There will be a multimedia presentation on horticulture and nurseries.

Kumar said that 329 entries have registered for the show.

Lalbagh will also see the inauguration of two eco-friendly vehicles by the Finance and Industry Minister P G R Sindhia, he added.
