BANGALORE: The much-awaited Anand Rao Circle flyover will be open to public in a week’s time. The construction is over, with only the asphalting, electrification and painting work being pending.

“These works are usually the last in a flyover construction,” BDA Commissioner M N Vidyashankar said. The flyover may come as a Republic Day gift to Bangaloreans.

The flyover was scheduled for completion in November and was promised as a Rajyotsava gift. But the promise was not fulfilled. BDA officials say that the rains played villain, and delayed the project, which was already delayed by the truck and lorry drivers’ strike, which stopped the supply of construction material.

The flyover will decongest traffic in one of the busiest junctions in the city. The flyover consists of a main flyover from Khoday’s Circle along Sheshadri Road, with a unidirectional carriageway and a loop towards Race Course Road and grade level service roads towards Sheshadripuram.

It is a five-lane undivided one-way flyover up to Ananda Rao Circle with a two-lane one-way down ramp towards Basaveshwara Circle and a four-lane one-way flyover along Sheshadri Road crossing Ananda Rao Circle and Subbanna Circle.

If the flyover is opened before the end of the month, BDA will achieve its first goal for the year.
