The Bangalore police foiled an apparent attempt to damage railway tracks in Nagenahalli near Hebbal on Sunday morning. A gas cutter and gas cylinder were seized from the spot near the tracks and one person was arrested in this connection.

According to Hebbal police, acting on a tip off, they rushed to the spot at 3 am and recovered equipment used to cut tracks. They arrested one person Kabir, 25, a resident of K G Halli for allegedly engineering the attempted crime. The Salem-Bangalore train, which was to cross the spot at 4 am, was diverted following the arrest.

On interrogation, Kabir divulged the names of two other persons from Frazer Town in the City who were allegedly involved in the plan.

JC Nagar sub-division ACP V Ganeshappa said, “Kabir was a regular police informant and had also informed the police about hazardous materials kept near the track. It is suspected that he tried to gain the confidence of police officers by faking the attempt.” The tracks were not disturbed in any way and there has been no change in schedule of trains passing through this track, railway police stated.
