Bangalore: Here is some good news for working women worried about their safety, especially if they travel alone after work. The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has decided to operate 500 buses for women commuters.

Some of the services will be at night with routes aligned to locations where many women work.

Although services may not be operated much beyond 10 p.m., the buses are expected to benefit many women. Top BMTC officials have said that there will be no discrimination of any kind even on other buses and any complaints such as women being deprived of seats reserved for them will be immediately attended to.

The corporation has regular gender sensitivity courses for bus drivers and conductors where they are taught the importance of being considerate to women. "If there are any complaints against bus crew or other BMTC staff, commuters can call us with details of the route number and other details and action will be taken against the erring staff," the officials said.

The numbers to be called are 22952422 and 22952314.

The complaints of women bus commuters are being taken seriously now.
