BANGALORE: The frustrating congestion at the Anand Rao circle will be a thing of the past. The much delayed flyover at Anand Rao circle, which created more congestion during its construction than it was intended to ease will be open for traffic by first week of January.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) promises to complete the works that have seen many deadlines. Last heard, the flyover was supposed to be completed by November 11.

BDA sources said that the deck connecting Khoday’s Circle to Maharani College Circle is complete and the modular joint to facilitate the loop at the JD-S office is awaited from China. The loop will help filtering the traffic, said sources.

The Rs 27.6 crore project has a main carriage way of 646 metres and 14 metres wide, which will ease the congestion level by 10,000 passenger car units (PCU) per hour. It will have no signal lamps.

The flyover will have five lanes in a single direction and the down ramp towards Chalukya circle will have two lanes. Towards Racecourse Road it will feature a 258-metre loop and an exit ramp. It will have four lanes over the Anand Rao circle ending at Subbanna Circle.

The flyover will reduce the traffic snarls on Race Course road, Chalukya Circle, Sheshadri Road and SC Road.

The project being built by Simplex Concrete Piles India Ltd was delayed due to the truckers strike. The chief minister had inspected the construction site in April and had ordered timely completion.

Pre-cast technology was deployed by the contractor to hasten the progress.

STEEL FLYOVERS

The BDA is planning to use pre-fabricated steel technology in its future flyover projects. The pre-fabricated steel modules would be used to assemble the flyovers in Trinity Circle and near Upparpet Police station, sources said.

This German technology would reduce the design period substantially apart from making the flyovers mobile.

The tenders for both these flyovers will be invited in a few days.

The peripheral ring road connecting Kengeri and Kanakapura would be complete by January end, sources added.
