Dust trail engulfs all on SJP Road

Dust trail engulfs all on SJP Road

Bangalore: Every morning and evening, when traffic flow gets heavy on this stretch, layers of dust fill the air. As vehicles make their way through the dust, owners of shops and establishments in the vicinity bear the brunt, with cases of dust allergy steadily on the rise.

And a la Moghul style, roads here are being watered for the dust to settle!

Welcome to Silver Jubilee Park (SJP) Road, where no road exists. Traders on this road say the stretch is extensively dotted with “dusty moon craters’’ as vehicles leave trails of dust.

On Monday, nearly 70 traders of SJP Road protested the ‘sand storm’ and blocked the busy stretch for about half an hour. A team of traders led a delegation to the BMP commissioner, urging him to take up road repair works so that the problem of dust is resolved.

The BMP has grandiose plans to concrete the stretch. As most of its projects remain on paper, this one too has not inched further.

“Tempo drivers who park their vehicles on the road, awaiting goods transportation orders are affected worst. As our shops border SJP Road, even we suffer from dust allergy. Every vehicle parked on the stretch has at least two inches of dust settled on it,’’ traders complained.

The road’s condition has exacerbated after the rain and negotiating craters has turned a nightmare for commuters.
On the parallel Saadar Patrappa (SP) Road, the entire stretch was dug up in October for concretisation and till date, the road has been lying untouched, rues B K Goyal of the traders’ association.
