BMP wakes up, thanks to President’s visit

BMP wakes up, thanks to President’s visit

On the evening of November 19 - the night prior to the President’s arrival in the city, the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike started out on a four-day special exercise in pothole filling.

Thank your President for undertaking that packed day-long trip to the City on Monday. Fresh-looking and dark-in-shade, a lot of squares, rectangles and parallelograms have appeared on the city roads over the last three days; incidentally or not they are mostly concentrated around the places which were used by President APJ Abdul Kalam.

Read them thus: Lakkasandra Main Road and Dairy Circle flyover junction, which he passed by to attend the Nimhans convocation; the BDA Complex Road in Domlur where he went to inaugurate the Bangalore International Centre; the Chowdaiah Memorial Hall Road in Malleshwaram where he attended the silver jubilee celebrations.

What are we talking of? Potholes.

On the evening of November 19 - the night prior to the President’s arrival in the city, the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike started out on a four-day special exercise in pothole filling.

Wednesday evening is BMP’s set deadline for the exercise and that gives cause for hope that not just the president, but Bangaloreans too were the inspiration behind the exercise.

On Tuesday, despite the light drizzle and mild showers, BMP officers and men were spotted at work in places like Indiranagar and K R Road.

Since funds for relaying and other major road works are yet to be sanctioned, some stretches which actually need relaying are being treated in the pothole category. “It will be relief for the time being”, observed an officer.

Other roads where pothole filling has been nearly completed are Sampige Road in Malleswaram, KR Road, Airport Road, Jeevanbhimanagar bus stand limits, Hudson Circle limits, Sanjay Gandhi Accident Relief Hospital area in Jayanagar etc.
