Bangalore: Don’t put your rain gear away. For, the deluge from the skies will continue for another 48 hours.

Both meteorological department and Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) have forecast heavy rain, with nearly 40 mm expected on each day. “There’s a fresh bout of low pressure over southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjoining areas of coastal Tamil Nadu,’’ Met department director A L Koppar said. By 8.30 pm on Tuesday, Bangalore city had received 86.5-mm rain.

The southern Karnataka districts of Kolar, Bangalore Rural, Mandya, Mysore and Chamarajnagar too will experience heavy rainfall. There will be light to moderate rains at a few places in Tumkur, Kodagu, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Raichur, Gadag, Chitradurga and Shimoga.
According to KSNDMC director V S Prakash, the low pressure will continue to bring rains for the next 3-4 days. “Our seismometers have not recorded any undue activity. We have not received any reports of heavy landslides either,’’ he said. Wet year, wet month: The heavy rain has broken a seven-year-old record. As of Tuesday, the city’s cumulative rainfall for the year stood at 1,435.3 mm, 3.1 mm more than the all-time high recorded in 1998.
