More wet days ahead

Citizens will have to expect another week of clogged drains, muddy roads, and gloomy weather the coming week.

According to the Meteorological Centre, more showers are expected in the City in the forthcoming days. To begin with a generally cloudy day with one or two spells of rain or thunder showers forecast for Monday is likely to add to the Monday blues. The condition, said to be characteristic of a retreating monsoon, is seen every year.

The City has already realised 195.8 mm of rainfall in these nine days of October against the normal rainfall of 180 mm for the month, says Dr A L Koppar, Director-in-charge of the met department. He said, “the retreating monsoon stagnates over South India moving out in a slow process. Monsoon has been active over peninsular India, supported by conditions which are favourable for rainfall including low pressure over South West Bay and upper air cyclonic circulation in the lower tropospheric level.” In Bangalore, the skies are cloudy from 9 am till about noon, so solar radiation and plentiful moisture is available to promote local development of clouds and sustain rainfall activity here.
