The BMP had undertaken a survey of buildings following a court direction

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday stayed till October 17 the notices by the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) to two residents of Koramangala asking them to demolish the violations detected in their buildings.

The BMP had undertaken a survey of the buildings at Koramangala following a High Court direction and issued notices to the building owners whose structures had violated the bylaws.

The court had passed the order following a public interest litigation (PIL) petition seeking direction to the BMP to remove the encroachments and illegal constructions at Koramangala. While ordering a survey of all the 6,000 buildings at Koramangala, the court had asked the BMP to issue show-cause notices to those persons whose buildings had violations or where encroachments were found.During the survey, the BMP had issued show-cause notices to several residents, pointing to the violations and asking why action should not be taken. Three residents of Koramangala had moved the High Court on Wednesday seeking a direction to the BMP to extend a seven-week time given to them to reply to the show-cause notices asking them why the violations in the buildings should not be demolished.

When the matter came up on Thursday, Justice Rammohan Reddy disposed of one petition and stayed the demolition of two other buildings till October 17.

He adjourned further hearing on the petition.
