Letter in DH on tackling auto menace

Auto menace

Sir, On 27th September 2005, we had a programme after which no autorickshaw was willing to ply us back. Apart from non-compliance, their behaviour was also rude.

With an intention to lodge a complaint I met Mr M A Saleem, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) at his office. A thorough gentleman, he gave me a patient hearing and explained to me his side of the problem in curbing this menace. I felt that he was right. He gave me a card released by the Bangalore City Traffic Police for the purpose of making complaints about the taxis and rickshaws. He said that the police are ready to book complaints and take corrective measures provided the victims make complaints. He has also stated that now with the help of advanced information technology the details of all the vehicles that are registered and run in Bangalore are fed into the computers. There is no problem to track down the vehicle and take action. General public should take advantage of this and come forward to make complaints.

I pray to the general public that whenever they come across any problem with rickshaw they should send a written complaint, duly signed, to the Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) or the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) indicating (1) the nature of the complaint, (2) the taxi or rickshaw or vehicle number, (3) date, time and place of committing the offence, (4) complainant’s address. As responsible citizens, it is our duty to strengthen the hands of the law-enforcing authority.
