Airport Road comes to a grinding halt

Airport Road comes to a grinding halt

Bangalore: Traffic on Airport Road near ISRO junction went out of gear during peak hours on Monday morning.

The traffic jam happened between 9 am and 11 am when Kannada Rakshana Vedike activists staged a protest demanding employment to Kannadigas in ITBT companies.

People heading towards IT Corridor and Airport were hit by the two-hour protest. As a result, traffic came to halt between Domlur and Airport.

“A large number of people were complaining about missing flights and not reaching their offices on time,” a traffic policeman said. The activists shouted slogans asking IT companies to employ Kannadigas on priority basis or “quit Bangalore”.

‘Police must act’: “Police cannot remain mute spectators to road blockades on important roads like Airport Road. They should initiate action against those who block roads without any fear,” said an angry commuter.

“The police should learn a lesson from the recent Supreme Court judgment wherein it asked Shiv Sena and BJP to pay Rs 20 lakh compensation for organising Mumbai bundh,” another road user who missed his Mumbai flight, said.
