Begur Lake breaches, water enters several houses


BANGALORE: It continued to rain heavily on Sunday in the city and suburbs. Heavy rain lashed the city and surrounding areas on Saturday. There were reports of breach of the Begur Lake and water entering several houses in the Bommanahalli City Municipal Council limits. Cases of injury to an old woman and of uprooting of a tree have been reported from the city.

According to the Bommanahalli City Municipal Council control room, the Begur Lake bund breached at midnight (Saturday) and water started entering several houses in Ongasandra and Garvebhavipalya.

The Bommanahalli City Municipal Council has taken steps to control the water outflow. "We are placing sand bags to reduce the force of outflow of water," a municipal official said.

In the city there were reports of water entering houses in Rajajinagar, KHB Colony, Shankarappa Garden, Nayandahalli and Aralikatte Road.

Chinnamma (60), according to reports, received injuries following collapse of an old house on Cobbonpet 13th Cross. Chinnamma was rescued by the Fire Services personnel.

There were also reports of trees being uprooted in Koramangala and Basavanagudi. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's "Prahari" removed the fallen trees. Traffic was affected on several main roads following water logging.
