BANGALORE, OCT 25: The much-delayed biotech park in Karnataka may finally take off soon with the state government shortlisting three firms for the execution of the project. The three companies in the race for the park are Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T), IVRCL Infrastructure & Projects Ltd, Hyderabad, and the Gurgaon-based Unitech Ltd. Once completed, it would be the first biotech park to be operational in the state.

Even though former chief minister SM Krishna had laid the foundation stone for the park in 2003 and was in the reckoning for the first biotech park in the country, now the park would only follow the biotech parks already come up in Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow and now Derabassi in Punjab.

But Karnataka is not ahead only in attracting IT companies but has been successive in attracting 18 new biotechnology firms in a short span of 12 months with an investment of Rs 1,800 crore, including Rs 750 crore from India’s biggest biotech firm Biocon.
