WITH 30 per cent of excess rainfall recorded for the monsoon season ( June to Sept) in the City this year , 2005 is going to be ’above normal rainfall year’, meteorological department director A L Koppar said on W ednesday .
Speaking to BVT , he said the actual rainfall received so far ( June to Sept) is 681 mm as against 522 mm, the normal rainfall for the monsoon season. The excess of 159 mm rainfall is not much a variation recorded and this can be considered as normal for the monsoon period as this will fit into the Inter Annual V ariability , he said. The total amount of rainfall recorded so far this year ( Jan 1 to Oct 5) is 1,042 mm as against 970 mm, the normal annual rainfall.
"There are still three months to go and we can expect good rains in October and with the expected promising rainfall in October , this year is likely to end on a surplus note," said Koppar .
With the South W est monsoon still withdrawing from South Peninsula and the setting in of the North East monsoon, good rainfall is expected in October , he said.
There will be some rains in November and compared to the last few years, we have received good rainfall this year and thus with not much variations recorded, even this year is likely to be ’above normal rainfall year’, he added.
