BDA puts forth Peripheral Ring Road design

BANGALORE: The 109 km Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) being planned by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) will comprise an eight-lane road with service roads and a 10 meter wide green area on either side to protect it from encroachments.
“This road is being planned to cater to the next 10 years and can be expanded up to 22 lanes,” BDA Commissioner M N Vidyashankar said.
He was addressing an interaction meet organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) at the Yavanika.
The BDA has displayed the proposed Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) 2015, Vidyashankar said the road would be completed within two years from the time of taking up the project and would initially have four lanes in either direction.
“The PRR will ring the City around BDA limits and will be toll free. We are constructing the part even where the NICE Corridor is constructing its road from Tumkur road to Hosur road.
“This is because NICE road is a toll road. Another reason for a parallel road in this section is that the NICE road is only a four-lane one.”
Vidyashankar said land acquisition proceedings for the PRR would be done at one go to avoid hike in acquisition costs. Totally, 3618 acres of land is needed and it will pass through 104 villages in four taluks around the City.
Allaying apprehensions that developments may encroach upon the road as in the case of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) now, the Commissioner said the road will be 100 metres wide throughout its alignment.
The PRR will also have a radial link with the City from 12 junctions where flyovers and grade separators will be provided to help fast moving traffic.
Vidyashankar also said that apart from the traffic statistics and growth, the BDA had also taken into account the metro rail and railway alignments that may align itself with the PRR.

why do we need a road running parallel to the nice road? if bda contention is that its tolled..probably they shd work it out with the NICE guys to make the road toll free instead of building a toll free road!
