Skywalks planned for city
The BCC will put up 29 skywalks at a cost of Rs 171 crores across the city soon

After the success of Jayanagar skywalk near the shopping complex, the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) will now take up 28 more skywalks in the city to help pedestrians cross busy roads and junctions. Jaiprasad, Technical Advisor, BCC, says, "the Corporation in its previous budget had allocated funds for constructing subways and skywalks. Subsequently, high pedestrian crossing roads and junctions were identified through a study. While some subways have been constructed and some are in the process, we are going to take up skywalk projects across the city at a cost of Rs 171.30 crores under seven packages.

After the Jayanagar skywalk that was put up at a cost of Rs 50 lakhs, the BCC is planning to put up skywalks at Richmond Road (near the flyover), K H Road (near the newly constructed Shantinagar bus station) and Airport Road (near Manipal Hospital). Tenders for the construction of these skywalks have been finalised and work will begin after the BCC Council approves the proposal. While most are skywalks with staircases, seven of the 29 proposed skywalks will feature escalators too. The Corporation has also chalked out revenue models from these skywalks through advertisements. Advertising space will be reserved along the inside and outside lengths of the skywalks and the stairs.
