Precautionary public health care measures like disinfection is being carried out by the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike in the rain-affected areas especially the low-lying areas, BMP health officers said.

Water-borne ailments like gastroenteritis, diarrhoea and jaundice are likely to show up a week after such a rain spell, a health officer said. Announcements urging people to use only boiled water is being made over loud speakers in the slums. The BMP is also in touch with BWSSB on checking water contamination if any, BMP Chief Health Officer P S Thandavamurthy said. And over the last two days the mobile health van of the BMP was used in the Rajendranagar slum at Koramangala where the residents are largely daily-wage labourers said an officer.

As a precaution against mosquito-borne illness, anti-larval measures will be initiated in the water logged areas during the weekend.
