Rs 10 crore plan to make Lal Bagh a better park

BANGALORE: The Horticulture Department has decided to improve the infrastructure at the historic Lal Bagh at a cost of Rs 10 crore.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Horticulture Minister R Sreenivas said the Government was spending Rs 9.39 crore to improve infrastructure and beautify the park.

The proposed development plan includes improvement of pathways, renovation of the aquarium, and erection of ornamental grills around the Glass House and other important locations.

The park will also get chain link fencing around the lotus pond, an improved parking area, asphalted roads, an anthorium, a orchadarium, an alpine house, an intersectivorous plant house, a rock garden and toilets.

The other works proposed include desilting of the small lake and islands, establishment of a weather observatory, installation of rain water harvesting structures, and spruced up entrance gates, reconstruction and repair of office buildings and establishment of food courts.
