The main reason behind this venture is to showcase varieties of tea in their original cultures and promoting their medicinal properties.

Plugging the medicinal values of tea along with its rich history and cultural affiliations may sound an unfamiliar concept. However, My Tea House, the state-of-the-art concept tea outlet which opened shop in Bangalore on Saturday, is doing just that. At its outlet in Banashankari, Bangaloreans can get a taste of tea in a multitude of cultures, and of course with all its medicinal values.

Tea contains fewer milligrams of caffeine per equal sized cup than coffee. It also contains vitamins A, B2, C, D, K and P apart from a number of minerals in trace amounts and aromatic oils. “We’ll be promoting tea as a health drink, at the same time showcasing the varieties in their true culture and history,” says Dr Anil Rawat, Chief Executive of My Tea House. “Research has proved tea’s medicinal values, which are dependent on the way you take tea. We are trying to bring the best of flavours from across the world to Bangalore,” he says. At the outlet, tea is prepared and served using the original methodology and ingredients.

Happy hours

The outlet, spread across 1500 sq ft will serve around 30 varieties of tea including 10 international brands. “In the evenings, young crowds can avail the gaming zone in our premises, while the happy hours - from 6 am to 8 am - are targeted at morning joggers and the older crowd with discounted rates. We’ll be playing spiritual music in the mornings to ensure a relaxed ambience.”

The tea varieties are priced between Rs 20 and Rs 50, along with snacks. Dr Rawat, a PhD in International Studies from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, says the idea germinated during his days in Japan as a student and later, a visiting professor.
