Going by the infrastructure development plans that are being drawn up by the government every day, the civic agencies may have miles to go before they sleep. After Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, which is under pressure to begin road upgradation work, it is the turn of the traffic police to face the heat -- this time to bring a semblance of order on Bangalore roads.

The monthly review meeting of the Bangalore City Traffic Task Force, chaired by Home Secretary Sudhakar Rao on Wednesday, decided on adopting fast-track measures to solve the traffic problem in the City.

According to sources, the Traffic Department is planning to chart out immediate decongestion plans on some of Bangalore’s busiest roads including Hosur Road, Sarjapur Road and the Central Business District.

The project may be taken up on Public-Private Participation model (PPP) in partnership with IT companies. A presentation on the same will be made to the government at the interaction meeting between the chief minister and the representatives of the IT companies on Thursday, the sources added.

Meanwhile, there is a workload on Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) too. The task force has directed the BMTC to identify and shift bus stands and bus bays which are hindering the flow of traffic because of their location.

“Some of the bus stands choke the traffic flow, especially if they are located near flyovers and intersections. These bus stands will be shifted. The BMTC has been told to take up the work on a priority basis,” an official said.

The BMP has also been told to list out the apartments that have not provided for parking place in their basement.
