Commercial complex on MG Road, two colleges receive anonymous calls

BANGALORE: A person, who claimed himself to be an Al-Qaeda activist, on Saturday called the Cubbon Park police station and said that a bomb has been planted at Prestige Meridian, a multi-storeyed commercial complex on Mahatma Gandhi Road.

The Cubbon Park police alerted the Ashoknagar police, in whose jurisdiction the commercial complex is situated, and the Control Room. Personnel of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, along with tracker dogs, rushed to the commercial complex, housing several offices, and conducted sabotage checks.

No explosives were found and the call turned out to be a hoax. The caller spoke in Kannada, the police said.

Two colleges in the city also received anonymous calls on Saturday that bombs have been planted in their buildings. The police said the calls were made to the principals of Vijaya College on R.V. Road in Basavanagudi and Krupanidhi College, off KSRP grounds, in Koramangala.

The two colleges suspended the classes as the police conducted searches. Both the calls turned out to be hoax, the police said.

A senior police official said that they could not trace the calls as the Cubbon Park police station and the two colleges do not have caller identification devices.
