BANGALORE: The state Government is geared up to meet the infrastructure needs of the city and traffic congestion would soon be a 'nightmare of the past', chief minister N Dharam Singh said on Wednesday.

He was speaking at the inauguration of Wyse Technology's India Corporate Office and Software Development Centre in the city. Bangalore was the fastest developing city in the East and civic agencies here were at their wits' end to cater to the growing population, the minister said.

“The government will provide flyovers, peripheral ring roads and wider roads to cope with traffic problems,” he added.

“The city has turned into a global IT hub, witnessing the entry of four new IT companies per week during the last financial year, up from two per week two years ago. The State government would like to create a friendly atmosphere for industries to grow.”

The CM was also keen to promote secondary cities in the state such as Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli-Dharwad, Gulbarga and Belgaum. He urged the IT industry to set up new campuses or expansion projects in these cities. The infrastructure was conducive and would be upgraded wherever required, he added.
