The East-Coast Construction Corporation and Gamon India Ltd have been chosen as the companies to execute the long-delayed Airport Road and Jayadeva Circle flyover projects respectively, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) said in a release.

The BDA’s latest promise is to start construction on the two flyovers after the High Court clears it and to ensure their completion within another eight months.

In a statement where the BDA admitted and regretted delays in executing the two projects that began over two years ago, the BDA defended itself saying that the matter was pending in the High Court.

Construction work would resume soon after the court clears it. Judgement is reserved for this week.

This means that the revised deadlines of June 2005 and December 2005 set for these two projects a few months ago, will further be put off.

Contract initially awarded to the UP State Bridges Corporation was terminated because of its “unprofessional attitude and complete negligence towards contractual obligations” in not completing the projects on schedule, costing heavy losses to the BDA. Though BDA re-tendered the projects and finalised alternate contractors, the UPSBC had questioned the move in the HC.

Construction on both projects began in November 2003 and was supposed to have been completed in April 2004.
