BANGALORE: The Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) has set up a 24x7 hotline, Prahari Squad, for registering civic complaints.

The squard will rush to the spot following complaints, say Corporation officials.

Common complaints attended to by the squad range from garbage collection to road cutting apart from other night emergencies.

Construction of unauthorised buildings in the locality or tree felling in the area can also be reported to Prahari besides the Police or Fire services.

On any complaint, BCC officials say related, the Squad will reach the spot in 30 minutes. Six patrol vehicles and over 25 rescue workers remain on call, they add.

‘‘Prevention of garbage dumping into drains and open places is top on the list of complaints,’’ said a squad member.

‘‘We also handle calls on waste meat dumped in the parks and other public places,’’ the member said.

On an average, Prahari receives more than 30 calls per day and upto 50 calls on holidays. Calls increase during the monsoon as flooding and tree felling are on the higher side.

The Squad also helps in keeping the pollution under control by co-ordinating with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.

Unauthorized buildings also include those roadside temples in Sivan Chetty Garden - opp Lavanya theatre. An arterial road with heavy traffic and yet everyone is oblivious of the fact that it is built on public places and another temple on the footpath on Asherkhana street. These are all joints for, novice smokers, self styled budding ruffians which the public is silently bearing the often ear splitting celebrations on every damn festival!!

And another mafia is the cattle mafia on Asherkhana street that squeeze the cattle for milk and let it loose around the bylanes of surrounding area all through the day. The cattle numbering about 30 roam the streets scavenging, urinating, faecating (sometimes with bad tummy and bleeding) around the schools, bumping into old people, scaring children, causing traffic snarls and any objection by public will invite the cattle owners/mafias who deal with that person with dire consequences! I found a number on one of the BBMP sites for cattle related complaints which promptly said the number is not in use when dialled!!!!

What is the use of highend tech savvy web sites in place when such glaring violations are seen and silently borne by hundreds of people everyday and not taking action on complaints given by a concerned few???? And once I even wrote to the 5 leading Bangalore newspapers which have neither reported nor investigated in to these temple/cattle tantrums in general about Bangalore city as a whole.
