Imbecile mayor's loony moves wreaks havoc in city

Free parking causes chaos

Does free parking mean one can park vehicles anywhere and on any road ?

While traffic rules do not permit this, the new free vehicle parking system on city roads has been literally translated into ‘free-to-park-anywhere’ by motorists.

Parking of vehicles outside the designated places and on roads where parking is banned, has posed a challenge to traffic police as well as motorists.

Motorists were seen parking just anywhere they want, especially in Majestic and semi-residential areas on day two of free parking regime. While some two-wheelers had parked using the side-stand and others according to their whims and fancy thus occupying more than the required space.

As per Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BMP) Council resolution, free parking only means that there is no collection of fee for vehicle parking. However, no changes are made with respect to designated parking lots on 140 roads across the city.

The problem of parking outside the designated place is rampant in Majestic area, Sheshadripuram, Malleshwaram, Rajajinagar, Chikpet, KR Market area, Shivajinagar and other busy places. Efforts of traffic police to prevent it has been in vain.

“People are under an impression that they can park anywhere they want in the free parking system. Of couse, there is no attendant to ensure orderly parking, but that does not mean that parking is allowed on all roads and in all places,” a traffic constable on B V K Iyenger Road said and added that citizens need to be first educated about orderly parking.

No parking

As a precautionary measure, most shop-owners in commercial hubs have put up no parking boards in front of their shops.

The aim is to prevent reckless parking, which would result in complete blocking of the way to their customers. Previously, parking was allowed even at the front of these shops, with a provision for people to move about.
