The Lake Development Authority (LDA) has appointed four zonal wardens to check pollution and encroachment of the water bodies in the city.
Mindless disposal of garbage, sewage inflow and encroachments have all affected most city lakes, according to LDA Chief Executive Officer B.K. Singh.
In a measure to rejuvenate these lakes, the Authority has decided to appoint wardens who would work on a voluntary basis.
‘‘The newly appointed wardens will cover specified areas on a daily basis and would submit a report. They will also assist us in finding solutions for the problems and creating public awareness. Their work would be reviewed constantly,’’ he said.
‘‘They are individuals with keen interest in saving the environment and have worked with NGOs. We hope they will play a pro-active role in sensitizing citizens to save lakes.’’ he added.
The wardens appointed are Green Cross Chairman Kiran Kumar H.K for Bangalore North, S.R.R Colony Residents Welfare Association vice-president S.K Raju for Bangalore East, Sharath Babu R. for Bangalore West and University Law College professor Anu Chengappa for Banagalore South.
