Bangalore: A new one-way rule introduced around Madivala police station on Hosur Road and Sarjapur Road has not gone well with the techies in the IT Corridor and residents of Koramangala and HSR Layout.
The police had introduced the one-way on Saturday. But the real test came on Monday morning. Even the presence of senior police officers, including DCP, traffic (east), M.A. Saleem failed to bring down the confusion.
Chaos prevailed on Sarjapura Road, to which traffic was diverted from four major roads — Dairy Circle, Hosur Road, Viveknagar and Indiranagar.
The road “cannot take so much traffic” was the general complaint from motorists, who prefer the road to reach HSR Layout, Electronic City and Hosur Road. Buses stopping at unscheduled spots added to the confusion. Constant honking was heard throughout the day playing hell with a peaceful residential locality.
Reacting to the chaotic experience of motorists, Saleem said: All these are teething problems, we’ll overcome them. The one-way rule is open for corrections and we’ll take a relook at it after feedback. All the one-way rules introduced in the recent past had faced similar problems.’’
On Sarjapur Road, BMTC buses park haphazardly and it leads to slow movement of vehicles. The presence of a large number of traffic constables has no bearing on erring bus drivers, a scooterist said.
Ever since the Forum Mall came up on Hosur Road, autorickshaws too are causing damage by parking on either side of the mall. The police, who stand right there, don’t make any effort to stop the autos from parking, another person said.
St. John’s Hospital patients and their relatives are the worst hit. Patients coming from Indiranagar have to take a long route. They cannot take a right turn from the Ring Road on to Sarjapur Road to reach hospital.
