Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) will widen forty-five roads in Bangalore, which are plagued by traffic congestion. This project is being undertaken with its Transferable Development Rights (TDR) method of compensation.

The civic body has already issued notification to property owners on these stretches inviting them to opt for TDR. Under this method, BCC will issue development rights certificates (DRC) so that property owners can use the floor area credit to enhance the floor area ratio (FAR) upto 60 percent of the existing FAR.

The roads include Hosur Road, Hosur Luksar Road, Sarjapur Road, Bellary Road, Sankey Road, Jayamahal Road, Palace Road, Seshadri Road, Nrupatunga Road, Ambedkar (Vidhana) Veedhi, Mission Road, Devanga Hostel Road, Victoria Road, Lower Agaram Road, Airport Road, Dickenson Road, Ulsoor Road, Murphy Road, Old Madras Road, Cottonpet Main Road, Sultan Road, Chamrajpet I Main and III Cross Roads, Bull Temple Road, Avenue Road, Mysore Road, K.R. Road, Padarayanapura Main Road, K.G. Road, Tannery Road, Hennur Road, Banasawadi Road, Mahalakshmi Layout Main Road, Link Road, Magadi Road, Kurabarahalli Main Road, J.C. Nagar 17th Main Road, Malleswaram 5th Cross, Commissariat Road, Race Course Road, Kasturba Road, Suranjan Das Road and Infantry Road.

BCC Commissioner K. Jothiramalingam said property owners stand to benefit immensely by opting for TDR. ‘‘We have studied the performance of TDRs in other Indian cities and the experience there gives us hope that the scheme would work here also,’’ he said.
