The dubious distinction that Subashnagar area (popularly known as Majestic area) has earned as the most chaotic and polluted place in Bangalore, may soon be a thing of the past. For, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will shortly take up a project to convert the entire area — from where KSRTC, BMTC, South-Western Railways and private bus operators are functioning — into a hi-tech transport hub.

The proposed transport hub will involve all modes of public transport, presently located in the area including private operators, according to sources. The plan is for integrated development of the sprawling 30-acre land owned by various agencies. The hub would serve as a common complex for buses and trains including the proposed metro rail.

The entire Subhashnagar area will be landscaped converting it into one of the lung spaces of the city, KSRTC Managing Director M R Sreenivas Murthy said on the sidelines of a discussion programme on “Bangalore at Crossroads” here on Monday.

He said that the concept of landscaping has been neglected by city planners for long time. Even residential layouts that were developed in the past as well as the recent ones lack proper landscaping. “Had the city planners given thrust on landscaping, Bangalore would have been a much beautiful place,” he added.
