BANGALORE: Give permission to cut a tree only after another is planted to replace it, demanded members of Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness, an NGO.

‘‘Development is a necessary. We request officials to plan and plant trees in advance for those, which have to be cut,’’ said the NGO members, who had recently conducted an awareness campaign in the city.

As part of the campaign, a joint initiative of Public Affairs Centre and Swabhimana, about 2,000 children from private, government and aided schools visited over 2,700 houses in the city to spread awareness about trees.

The NGO appealed the Government to bring back the concept of Tree Wardens and Tree Courts. Also maintain records of all avenue trees and those planted to replace cut trees, they said.

Children expressed concern about pruning techniques, which they said were unscientific and lead to death of the tree.
