Bangalore: The State government on Monday told the Karnataka High Court that it will take all steps to ensure that the film moratorium issue is resolved. The submissions were made before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice N K Sodhi and Justice S R Nayak.

The State was replying to a petition filed by an advocate S Vasudev seeking a direction to the State Government to lift the ban on the screening of newly released non-Kannada films for three weeks.

The Government further stated that it will see to it that an amicable solution is reached. However, it clarified to the court that it had not passed any order to ban screening of non-Kannada films and added that the matter was purely a dispute between different factions in the film industry.

The Bench disposed of the petition after taking into consideration the submissions made by the State Government.
Vasudev, in his petition, had challenged the three week ban on the screening of non-Kannada films in the State, saying that the ban was illegal and the State Government was a party to the same.

Terming the ban as violation of fundamental rights, he stated that only the viewers have a right on what film they want to watch.
