Using helicopters could avert traffic snarls

Using helicopters could avert traffic snarls: Mariswamy
Deccan Herald

Police Commissioner S Mariswamy had recently suggested that VIPs, during their visit to the City should use helicopter to avoid traffic congestion. One only wished this was followed on Friday during President APJ Kalam’s visit, reports DHNS in Bangalore.

Surely the President had no intention of causing inconvenience to the travelling public. But for his security certain protocol had to be followed.

That was the officials did and this led to piling up of vehicles on busy roads in the evening.

As expected, Airport Road, Indiranagar 100 Ft Road, Hosur Road, Old Madras Road, MG Road, Cubbon Road, Palace Road, J C Road, Richmond Road, Vittal Mallya Road, Infantry Road, Queen’s Road, Kasturba Road, Mallya Hospital Road, St Mark’s Road, Residency Road and Hudson Circle, all witnessed snarls between 6.30 pm and 8.30 pm, that is until the President left the City. Traffic signals on these roads were switched off to regulate traffic. Utter chaos prevailed on almost all these roads.

A senior police officer however, maintained that the jam was that of a ‘routine peak-hour’ nature.
