Kannada film industry gives Kannada a bad name

Its a pity that no sane voice has questioned the Kannada Film Industry for equating the cause of Kannada with that of its own survival. If one takes even a cursory look at Kannada films released in the last two years, the leading lady is almost always non-Kannada, the storyline, instead of showcasing Kannada literature is lifted lock, stock and barrel from elsewhere. The songs are sung entirely by non-Kannada singers from Bollywood who cannot pronounce a word of Kannada correctly. The lyrics have more Hindi and English phrases than Kannada. The dialogues make one cringe at the way the language is butchered. Given all this, just how does the Kannada film industry promote the cause of Kannada? If anything, it gives it a bad name. Public interest hijacked by vested interests seem to be the order of the day in this country.

Quality kannada films are dwindling and it is a contributing factor for kannada film issue. But, you have to keep in mind that the film issue is a tip of the iceberg as far as survival of kannada is concerned.

If kannada movie actors can stage a dharna for kannada movies, that is a begining for Kannada chaluvali, Others will join. Kannada is in trouble in all aspects. Kannada should survive in Karnataka at any cost. No compromise there. We all have to chip in.

This is crazy. What is this got to do with kannada or its movies. Its sheer case of inability to innovate or compete within the industry. People can watch any movie they like to watch and who are these folks to stop them from doing so. Instead, they should try to be more innovative and be competitive with other langauge film industry. This is very divisive and is not acceptable.
These folks have too much free time on their hands to cook up crazy things like moratoriums and dharnas. Hope bangaloreans will just ignore them and let these guys with no brains fail miserably for the sake of india..

Indian states are like mini countries with their own pride and culture. Moreover, states are based on languages, culture, and it is extemely important for Kannada to be supreme with a healthy co-existance of other cultures and languages. We have to find amicable solutions for language and culture issues of states keeping in mind of hostile migrants and globalization. Other states are facing similar issues (marathi, assam, etc).

India is not like America. It has significant cultural baggage in each state and people are proud of them. No one can threten their existence. Outsiders have to contribute constructively and be part of Kannada cause.

I don't quite get the logic that the Kannada film industry is espousing. How does protecting a film indsutry which employs more talent from outside Karnataka and abuses the language in its dialogues and songs promote or protect the language. By extension of the film industry's logic, every "other-language" mass medium has to be banned. So, what next - other language newspapers and magazines, TV Channels, Radio channels will all be banned for 7 weeks? Make good films - Janumada Jodi, America America, Amrithavarshini, Nammoora Mandara Hoove, Kurigalu Saar Kurigalu, Aaptha Mithra - all entertaining and appealing films made in the last 3-4 years, all big box-office money spinners. Moratorium or no moratorium, films that appeal to a large section of the paying public will always do well. Make a shoddy film and give the public no other choice, they will sit home and watch pirated VCDs and DVDs, not troop to the theatres. Just how does the Kannada film industry gain from this situation? The Government loses entertainment tax from the screening of other language movies and the fair name of Kannada and Karnataka is sullied. That will be the only outcome of trying to yield to the demands of a bunch of selfish nincompoops caught in the medieval ages.

Thanks for your comments. I totally agree with you. The irony is that there is almost no kannada in kannada films!!. I'm also interested to know how they would define or decide whether a movie is kannada, hindi or english. Funny, really, really funny.
But who will tell these kannada producers.I'm totally irritated and angry with this moratorium. I'm also angry that they are spoiling the name of kannada, (because I am a kannadiga). Kannada is such a good language which does not need support or bad kannada films to survive. In any case good kannada films do well anyway. So what do they want? Bad kannada films should also do well?? Ridiculous.
