FKCCI accuses govt of neglecting infrastructure

Deccan Herald

The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) on Wednesday took exception once again to “the serious lack of vision and statesmanship” on the part of the ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition in the State, particularly with regard to the infrastructure development sector.

In a statement, FKCCI President Manandi N Suresh said that Bangalore, which has the attention of the whole world focussed towards it for outsourcing, is likely to end up in chaos unless immediate measures are taken to tackle the infrastructure shortfall.

Expressing disgust over the ‘inexcusable delays and ditherings’ in implementation of various major infrastructure projects, Mr Suresh stated, “It is essential to remember that in a competitive market economy, not only companies but even states are compelled to race against time to solicit investments — be it FDI or domestic — to accelerate growth and generate employment.”

Referring to politicisation of project implementation, Mr Suresh rued that the much-touted public-private partnership schemes have come to nought because of political bickerings and ‘phoney scare-mongering’. Inadequate urban infrastructure is likely to prove critical and “severely restrain economic growth, apart from pushing the quality of life down”.
