Heaps of garbage, pothole ridden roads and wobbly footpaths are just some of the problems faced by the residents of Rajarajeshwari Layout.

Citizens voiced their problems in an interactive meeting with the members of Ideal Homes Residents’ Association, the councillors and civic authorities in Rajarajeshwari Layout in Bangalore on Sunday.

Councillors Manju and Pramila R Baliga who were present in the meeting were forced to give an explanation on bad roads, garbage problem and broken street lights.

In reply, Ms Baliga said that the tender process for asphalting roads in the area had been completed and the work will begin soon. She said the garbage disposal, converting footpaths into green patches had also been taken up with the participation of residents.

Pending civic works such as construction of public toilets would be taken up shortly. Ten major junctions in the area were lit with sodium vapour lamps, she added. Replacing and fitting of additional tube lights in the area would be taken up in a phased manner, she said.

Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board Assistant Executive Engineer Jayashankar assured that the pending work of the Ideal Homes water tank will be completed within a month. The residents of Rajajarajeshwari Nagar who come under City Municipal Council (CMC) area have collected funds for disposal and segregation of garbage in the area. The residents have even constructed a compost plant for recycling the garbage generated daily in the area.
