Bus lane system finds no takers

Bus lane system finds no takers

Bangalore: The recently introduced dedicated lane system for BMTC, KSRTC and private buses on Bellary Road between Hebbal flyover and Cauvery junction has run into rough weather with no takers for the rule.

Two-wheeler riders, autorickshaw drivers and others are not following the new system, introduced on an experimental basis. They are encroaching into the space reserved for the buses.

“Like any other new system, this rule is also facing teething problems and we will overcome it,” M.A. Saleem, DCP, Traffic (East), said. “We have divided the road between Hebbal flyover and Cauvery junction into two parts and deployed traffic policemen to make sure everybody follows the lane system”, he added. “This apart, we request the public to follow the lane system meant to ease congestion,” he said.

Meanwhile, many motorists (other than bus drivers) are upset with the new system. “There are many intersections, especially near Ganganagar, and right turns on the road and this is defeating the very purpose. With the new system, we are being subjected to inconvenience,” a scooterist said.
