Ananda Rao circle flyover project to clog traffic for one more year

Flyover project to clog traffic for one more year

BANGALORE: It is going to take another year for the construction of flyover across Anand Rao Circle and it will not be ready by August 2005 as displayed at the work site. The contractor, Simplex Concrete Piles (I) Ltd, is yet to prepare a diversion, leave alone driving the piles for its foundation.

The already clogged Subedar Chatram Road, Race Course Road and Sheshadri Road would have really impossible traffic load once the construction begins here. The ongoing rail underbridge work near Nehru Circle has already made it an expedition for motorists coming from Shivananda Circle towards Anand Rao Circle.

Once the construction begins, the journey from Rajajinagar and Vijayanagar will become punishing due to the Rajajinagar grade separator work which will be compounded by the works on Anand Rao Circle.

And the only traffic management plan is to drive slow on these diversions for the next one year or stay home.

The Rs.27.6-crore project comprises five-lane undivided one-way flyover from Khoday Circle upto Anand Rao Circle with a two-lane one-way down ramp towards Basaveshwara Circle and four-lane one-way flyover along Sheshadri Road crossing Anand Rao Circle and Subbanna Circle. Bangalore Development Authority sources said that the project might see light of the day by November 14, 2005.

The project involves aquisition of 1,870 sq.m land from Bangalore Turf Club which has not happened yet. Apart from Turf Club, 1,845 sq.m from PWD and BWSSB and 1,810 sq.m from KPTCL premises are to be acquired.

The delay in acquisition of these vital pieces of land can further delay the project.
