BANGALORE: Digital cameras, fancy mobiles, original and pirated CDs. They’re all there at the shopping malls in the Majestic area. The world of gadgets leaves one confused over what to buy.
The idea of shopping malls is not new to Bangalore. These shopping malls at Majestic that were built a decade ago draw thousands of visitors each day.
Burma Bazaar and Hong Kong Bazaar used to be the only landmarks in the area a few years ago. Today National Market, Bajaj Complex, City Centre, and Sukh Sagar Shopping Complex are standing up to be counted.
City Centre has more than 200 shops and New Hong Kong Bazaar about 110. National Market, Bajaj complex, Sukh Sagar and Burma Bazaar all have 100 shops each.
Though the markets dealings’ border the shady, with periodic police raids on their pirated CDs and fake mobile phones, they are quite conspicuous with all the glitter and gizmos, selling wares like mobile accessories, digital and video cameras, garments, shoes, DVDs and even foreign currency, all ‘‘bargainable’’ prices.
Altaaf Pasha who runs a shop at Burma Bazaar says: ‘‘Burma Bazaar is the oldest shopping mall, operating for the last 24 years. Mobiles and cameras are the prime goods sold here.’’
Vikram Sai, who was busy shopping says he would never miss coming to Majestic, as he can buy fancy stuff cheap.
Masook of Bajaj Complex says their complex is rated well because of the airconditioning. ‘‘During weekends and government holidays, we see more visitors,’’ Masook added.
Anand Shah says, ‘‘National Market is known for mobiles and accessories. The mobiles we get are imported and though we cannot assure buyers about the quality we have got no complaints from customers so far,’’ he adds.
