Lingarajapuram road over bridge ready

Here is some good news for residents of Lingarajapuram, who have put up with dust and bad roads for a long time now due to the construction of the road over bridge (ROB).

The Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) will open the road for traffic on October 16. The ROB construction is over but the BCC is waiting for sunny days to apply the final coat of asphalt. The Rs 15-crore project, shared between the BCC and Railways, has been delayed for two months.

BCC commissioner K. Jothiramalingam told reporters here on Friday the Banaswadi ROB, Cantonment road under bridge (RUB) and Nehrunagar RUB would be completed and opened for traffic before December 31. The Banaswadi ROB requires two more down-ramps at a cost of Rs 3 crore.

While the BCC and Railways had proposed to construct a ROB near ITC factory at a cost of Rs 14.5 crore, the authorities are now planning to make it a grade separator. “We’re planning a road under bridge, something like the road under Windsor Manor bridge. This will cut down the cost by half. The BCC and railway officials will conduct a feasibility study next week,’’ Jothiramalingam said.

Roads to be widened

Come December, residents of Rajajinagar and surrounding areas can breathe easy. For, the BCC will complete the underpass construction and lay new roads around.

It will take up six-laning of the 1.5-km Mysore deviation road — from Okalipuram petrol bunk up to Leprosy hospital. Similarly, the stretch from Rajajinagar entrance to Khodays Circle will be straightened and made into an eight-lane road.

The road maintenance, which has been outsourced for 2,000 km, will start on November 1. Ward-wise roadmaps have been prepared, identifying the stretch that will come under private maintenance, BCC engineer-in-chief Rame Gowda said.

Jalahalli park opening postponed

The BCC has postponed the inauguration of J.P. Park at Jalahalli which was supposed to be held on October 11. The work on park development which has been taken up under the mega city scheme, has been on since the last six years and does not show any signs of completion.

According to an official release by Jalahalli corporator and opposition party leader B.R. Nanjundappa, the civil works will be hastened up and inauguration will be carried out shortly.
