Bala Janaagraha to bring kids into civic scene

Bala Janaagraha, a civic programme initiated by Bangalore-based NGO Janaagraha directed at making school children responsible citizens, released the book ‘Me and My city’ -a children’s handbook on the local government and its functioning, on Friday.

The book jointly written by Ms Sunita Nadhamuni and Mr Ramaerrabelli is going to be distributed to 6,000 students studying to 7th and 8th standards in 80 schools in the city free of cost.

The book highlights the responsibilities of students in carrying out civic duties.
It also contains illustrations about the local government including details about issues pertaining to water, electricity, garbage disposal and traffic problems.

The book, printed in both English and Kannada, was released by Mr Bob Hoekstar, Chief Executive Officer of Philips Software Centre.

The function held at East-West School in Rajajinagar was attended by representatives of various corporate houses like Ernst & Young, SSL, Portal, HealthScribe as they were sponsoring field visits of students to study the functioning of various civic agencies.
