Bangalore: The City traffic police have introduced the much-awaited dedicated bus lane service from Hebbal flyover via Mekhri Circle to Palace Cross Road. The new system will come into effect from Monday.

The police said in a press release that a 11-foot lane on both sides of the road would facilitate the BMTC, KSRTC and private buses' movement. However, LMV and other vehicles would not be allowed to ply in this lane. The vehicles could use the lane in cross or inter-section.

The dedicated lanes for the BMTC buses are expected to facilitate faster movement of the buses enabling commuters to reach their destinations early, without compromising on road safety.
The proposal for this was made three months back to bypass the congested city roads and help the bus drivers drive safely to various destinations. This scheme will be extended to other roads depending on the success of the dedicated lane on Bellary Road. (Incidentally, Vijay Times had reported about the proposal to introduce the dedicated bus lanes some time back.)

Meanwhile, the movement of heavy goods vehicles on Hosur Road, Bannerghatta Road and Sarjapur Road will be partially banned from 8 am to 10 am and again from 5 pm to 8 pm from Saturday on a one-month trial basis.

The movement of heavy goods vehicle has been banned on Hosur road from Silk Board Junction to Chandapura. Similarly, the movement of heavy goods transport vehicles has been banned from JD Junction to Meenakshi temple and on Sarjapur road, according to the press release. VTN
