Defaced City walls: BCC appears to be a toothless

Defaced City walls: BCC appears to be a toothless

Bangalore: The City has turned into one big publicity post card with walls, trees and even bridges being pasted with advertising material without proper authorisation.

Despite possessing the power to impose a fine of Rs 1,000 and six months imprisonment on those defacing walls in the City, the Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) appears to be a toothless tiger.
The sheer rampancy with which this practice is being followed has posed the BCC with a huge problem even as large hoardings are contemplated for removal on grounds of distracting motorists.
Be they film exhibitors, political parties, social organisations or religious groups, they all resort to easy, low-cost way out to publicise their events.

For them warnings like "stick no bills" don't matter. They appear to make no sense to them.
A disappointed V Sathyamurthy, president, Residents Welfare Association says “We have made repeated pleas to the BCC for a long time now, but so far nothing has been done in this regard. These posters are all over the place - at Mekhri Circle, Windsor Manor Bridge, Race Course, and all the places in the City known for its scenic beauty."

He questions: “When walls of the military barracks, ministers' residences and Vidhana Soudha can be spared from this menace because of strong law enforcement, why can't the same enforcement be extended to other places in the City to ensure prevention of wall defacing?
