HC directs BCC to file status of roads

BCC directed to file affidavit on status of roads

Bangalore: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday directed the Commissioner of Bangalore City Corporation (BCC) to file an affidavit, along with a report on the present status of widening of footpaths in the city.

Justice Ram Mohan Reddy while issuing the directions adjourned the matter to Sept 15. The Judge referring to an affidavit submitted by the BC Commissioner, also observed that the BCC has undertaken steps to widen footpaths on a war footing. The affidavit also specified that the work on the footpath from the Double Road junction to the Richmond Circle is also being given top priority.

The case came up in the backdrop of a petition which had challenged the removal of a sign board that was put up by an advertising firm. The sign post was on the Richmond circle-Double road Junction. The High Court, while dealing with this matter on an earlier ocsasion had rapped the BCC Commissioner. It was brought to the notice of the Court that the BCC had narrowed the foot path on the Double Road-Richmond Circle junction and the people were finding it difficult to walk on it. The Court had then directed the BCC Commissioner to take a walk on the footpath and file an affidavit. The BCC Commissioner after complying with the order of the Court submitted an affidavit stating that widening work on the footpaths in the city had begun.
